Play as a Lab for Strategies
Shared rules and small changes in a game create chances to choose, observe and adapt a strategy.

A simple game can become a laboratory for decisions. To reach a goal, remember a turn or build a shape, players choose a move and notice how that choice changes what they can do next.
An adult can follow the reasoning instead of correcting every step: “What led you to choose that move?” or “Which possibility would you like to try on your next turn?” The child practises explaining as well as planning.
To complement play with exercises in logic and attention, MENTELAB offers neurocognitive activities and logic games.
Changing one rule at a time can open an interesting comparison. Try a shorter version, reverse the order of turns or add a shared constraint, then describe what became easier or harder.
There is no need to turn every game into a lesson. Making room for enjoyment, surprise and invention protects the spirit of play; a brief conversation afterwards can simply collect the strategies that appeared.
